Anyone who has been hospitalized for wheezing, suffers from more than one case of bronchitis per year, or has persistent ongoing daily symptoms of cough/wheezing or limitations in activities should be evaluated for the diagnosis of asthma

Can asthma be developed later in life?

While 75% of asthma is diagnosed by age 7, asthma can certainly develop in later adolescence and adulthood.

Are there environmental factors that may affect or cause onset breathing problems?

In the case of asthma, there are numerous genetic and environmental risk factors. Environmental pollutants, allergens and tobacco exposure are well described inhalational exposures that can contribute to and affect both asthma but also other underlying pulmonary conditions.
